During the spring Load Indicator developed and delivered a new batching scale system to a facility in the chemical industry in central Sweden. The project ran for four months and finished with installation and commissioning in connection with the customer's planned maintenance stop in May.
The assignment was to replace an existing weighing system with a new solution based on components from Siemens, adapted for batch bag filling in production with high requirements for precision and operational reliability. The weighing system is built around a Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU 1214C as PLC, SIWAREX WP341 as the weighing module and a SIMATIC HMI KTP700 Basic as the operator panel. Together the components were integrated with the customer's higher level control system to give a robust and reliable solution in daily operations.
Work began with a pilot study where the system requirements, production conditions and the layout of the existing electrical cabinet were mapped together with the customer and the other parties involved. From that basis we prepared hardware and software for the weighing system and carried out in house tests before the on site installation.
"Replacing a weighing system in a facility that runs around the clock places high demands on planning. By scheduling the installation during an already planned maintenance stop we could minimise the impact on the customer's production while ensuring a safe and controlled commissioning," says Philip Carlsson, CEO of Load Indicator.

During the May maintenance stop, installation, commissioning and calibration of the new weighing system were carried out on site at the customer. We also took part in training of the customer's staff, which gave the operation good conditions for a smooth transition to the new solution from the first production day after the stop.
The project is a clear example of how Load Indicator works – from pilot study and development through to installation and training – to deliver weighing systems that hold up all the way into production. Through close cooperation with the customer and careful schedule planning we could deliver a solution that meets high requirements for both accuracy and availability, without disrupting the customer's ordinary operations.
